A half-day course on SMART goal setting and organization-wide goal alignment
Overview
A half-day session on setting SMART goals and aligning them from company strategy down to individual employees. The design is discussion-led, with seven timed group activities including a full SMART goal write-up using the supplied handout. Trainers can deliver it in a classroom or online, edit every file, add their own logo and run it with unlimited groups.
Format. Half day (2 to 2.5 hours). Designed for classroom delivery and adaptable to live online sessions.
Who it is for. Managers, team leaders and HR practitioners who set goals with employees; pitched at beginner level for groups of 8 to 20.

Course outline
Introductions, session overview and the three learning objectives.
A group exercise on why geese fly in V formation opens the topic and draws out three lessons about shared direction, rotating leadership and encouragement.
Pairs draft their own definition of goal alignment, then the group works through four reasons it matters to a company and its people.
Participants record their three most important business goals, then examine each of the five SMART criteria with worked examples.
A 25-minute group exercise using the handout checklist to convert a generic business goal into a SMART one.
How goals flow from organizational strategy to departments and individuals, practised through two group exercises.
Nine practices for agreeing goals in 1-to-1 review meetings, illustrated with an example of an aligned review sheet.
Q&A recap of the learning objectives and session close.
